Shoei RF-1000 motorcycle helmets (buckmaster shown)

The new RF-1000 takes many of it's features directly from the outstanding X-11. The shell is made of the same AIM+ material, which translates into less weight. The RF-1000 also utilizes a version of the EPS two layer technology, allowing air to travel through internal ducts to the rear exhaust port. And finally, the cheek pads have been designed to be removable.

The RF-1000 is a huge improvement over the old RF-900. The main improvement is the venting. This helmet is light years ahead of the RF-900, and for the first time, we walked away impressed with one of Shoei's middle ground helmets.

Is the RF-1000 an X-11? Not even close. But in many ways, that's not being fair. "No" other helmet we've tested has come close to bumping the X-11 off the top step of the podium. However, when the RF-1000 is stacked up against other helmets in its price range, it excels.

The RF-1000 fits very close to the old RF-900, but with one HUGE difference. The RF-1000 has removable cheek pads. Fitting the helmet is now easy, and making adjustments is a snap. The vents are easy to operate, and the fit and finish is what you expect from Shoei. Flawless.
